If you like Twilight . . .

twilightStephenie Meyer combined so many elements - romance, fantasy, adventure - who can say what made the story of Bella & Edward so riveting?  Don't know, but if you're looking for more series with great storytelling, page-turner drama and truly memorable characters, try some of these:

Mortal Instruments Trilogy / Cassandra Clare

This is one of the top reads of recent years.  It has it all - adventure, fantasy, great characters and of course, forbidden romance!  Clary has always been able to see fairies, but she's been taught never to tell anyone about her abilities.  One night she runs into Jace, a blue-haired demon hunter, and well, she just can't hide anymore.

City of glass; avalable in HC or pb

And, sometimes, well, an author just can't let go.  Clare has started a second trilogy starring Clary & Jace.  It's worth reading, but the jury's still out on what I think of it.

City of fallen angels

City of lost souls

Infernal Devices trilogy

A library co-worker is not a fan of pre-quels, but I'm trying to convince her that this is one series that's totally worth a read!  Innocent Tessa arrives in dreary foggy Victorian London searching for her errant brother.  Instead she is taken in by the creepy Dark Sisters, only to be rescued by the Demonhunters of the day - beautiful silver-haired Jem and his warrior brother, the deadly attractive Will Herondale.  So much fun!

Clockwork angel; available in HC or pb

Clockwork prince

Blue Blood series / Melissa de la Cruz

Think Gossip Girls meets Twilight . . . . Schuyler has never been a part of the trendy crowd at her pretigious NYC private school.  But then, Jack Force, the most popular guy in school seems to be everywhere.  And when one of the popular girls is found dead, Schuyler and Jack are thrown together in spite of everyone trying to keep them apart.

The series is up to #6, but you should start with the first one, Blue Bloods.  To find the rest of the series, page down to the series info and click away!

Hush Hush series / Becca Fitzpatrick

Nora Grey is responsible, smart, and not inclined to be reckless.  Her first mistake was falling for Patch, the mysterious new boy in her biology class.  Patch has made countless mistakes with a past that is anything but harmless.  The best thing he ever did was fall for Nora, and the next best thing he should do is stay away from her.

Hush, hush

Evernight trilogy / Claudia Gray

Bianca always known that she's different - sleek, beautiful, almost predatory - and her parents have a secret they've never shared.  On her first day at Evernight Academy, she finds herself drawn to another outsider hiding a dark secret.

Need series / Carrie Jones

Zara doesn't think she's in danger, what could be so scary about hanging out with her grandmother in Maine?  Wrong!  Turns out the guy she's seeing everywhere, the one leaving trails of gold glitter, isn't a figment of her imagination.  He's a pixie -- and not the cute, lovable kind with wings.  He's after Zara, and he's not the only one!

Iron Fey series / Julie Kagawa

When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.  A surprise hit for the publisher and a teen's top 10 choice.

FYI a bonus story "Summer's Crossing" is available in ebook format for free - yeah!

Iron queen

Iron knight

Fallen series / Lauren Kate

There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.  Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce - and he goes out of his way to make that very clear - she can't let it go.  Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret -- even if it might kill her.

Wing series / Apilynne Pike

Laurel's life is the very definition of normal, until the morning when she wakes to feel somthing blooming from her back.  With the help of an alluring faerie sentry who holds the key to her true past, Laurel must race to save her human family and sweet new boyfriend from the ancient faerie enemies who threaten their lives.

Wolves of Mercy trilogy / Maggie Shiefvater

For years Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house.  One yellow-eyed wolf is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives:  in winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl.  In summer, a few precious months of being human . . . until the cold always makes him shift back again.
