Guidelines for Internet/Computer Use

In the interest of fair use of Internet computers by all, the following use guidelines must be observed:

  • Each computer user should log in using his or her own Minuteman Library Network (MLN) card. *
  • If there are empty computers, patrons may select the computer they want and  take a seat.  Once all the computers are in use, patrons will need to use the queue  station. The queue station will assign a patron to a computer on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Patrons will be entitled to two one-hour sessions per day - with a 30 minute wait between sessions.
  • Patrons will be automatically logged off at the end of a session and will receive a warning 5 minutes before their time expires.  If no one is waiting for a computer, patrons may be permitted to extend their session by 15 minutes at a time.
  • There is a 15 minute time limit per day on the Express computer.
  • All the Internet computers will shut down five minutes before closing time.
  • No more than two persons may use the Internet computer at one time without special permission. Permission for more than two persons at the computer may be given for reasons such as family groups or school projects.
  • Downloading may only be done to a removable device such as a floppy disk, a CD or a flash drive - never to the hard drive.

Ask the reference librarian if you need assistance.

* Non-library card holders may be issued a "guest" pass valid for that day only. Ask at the reference desk for a guest pass.
